Patanjali's Code of Conduct

According to Patanjali's Yoga Sutra, Yoga is governed by a series of ethical principles known as "Yamas" and "Niyamas". These principles are the first two limbs of the eight limbs (ashtanga: ash = eight, anga = limbs) of yoga.

Here we have a break down of of the yamas and niyamas:

Yamas - Universal Morality
Ahimsa ~ (non-violence) "Do not harm"
Satya ~ (truthfulness)"Do not lie"
Asteya ~ (non-stealing) "Do not Steal"
Brahmacharya ~ (Non-excess) "Be Modest"
Aparigraha ~ (Non-possessiveness) "Do not be greedy"

Niyamas- Personal Observances
Saucha ~ (Purity) "Be clean in thought, word and deed"
Santosha ~ (Contentment) "Be content"
Tapas ~ (Austerity) "Work hard, be disciplined"
Svadhyaya ~ (Self and scriptural study) "Study"
Ishvara Pranidhana ~ (Surrender to the divine) "Dedicate your efforts to the Divine"

The other 6 limbs of yoga are Asana, Pranayama, Pratyhara, Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi.

Join Greenhouse Holistic as we try our very best to adhere to this Code of Conduct.
